12 Hot Anime Series to Stream for Your Summer Watch List (2024)

As springtime anime releases begin to wrap up, summer titles are about to hit your TV screens. It's time for the return -- and debut -- of some highly anticipated TV series like Suicide Squad Isekai and Oshi no Ko. Though fan favorites such asMy Hero Academia and Demon Slayerhave some episodes left in the tank, you can make room for some new arrivals that will hit in June, July and August.

Whether you're into comedy, magical fantasies, action or zany adventures, there's something for every kind of fan. Check out this list for a look at some of the most entertaining anime you can stream on Netflix, Crunchyroll and other streaming services.

From Warner Bros. Japan comes Suicide Squad Isekai, a new anime series that brings Harley Quinn, Peacemaker, Deadshot, King Shark and Clayface together for a mission. Under Amanda Waller's watch, they're transported to a different world where magic and supernatural creatures exist. The series will consist of 10 episodes and will begin streaming on Max and Hulu on June 27.

Demon Slayer, season 4 finale

The Hashira Training Arc will be coming to a close, pitting the demon slayers against their biggest foe: Muzan. Expect more than just one big battle, and expect Tanjiro to feel a little unsettled. The Demon Slayer finale will be one hour long and stream on Crunchyroll on Sunday, June 30 at 11:45 a.m.

My Deer Friend Nokotan

If you want to watch a new comedy series, then My Deer Friend Nokotan should be on your list for all the buzz it's generating. It has a deer/human hybrid, deer destruction, an ancient legend and it asks the existential question: Why do deer eat deer crackers? It debuts in Japan on July 7 and will be available to stream on Crunchyroll and Prime Video in the US.

A sleeper hit, Oshi no Ko became a fan-favorite when season 1 dropped in 2023. A doctor who was set to deliver a pop star's babies in secret is murdered and reincarnated as one of her twins,while the other is a reincarnated fan of the singer. Years later, the singer is murdered, and her teenage twins grow up seeking to solve the mystery of her death and dig into how their father was involved. The show returns on July 3 to Hi-Dive.

My Hero Academia, season 7

Expect more stress and more adult vs. kids battles when My Hero Academia returns. Deku won't have to face Shigaraki (or All For One) all alone as season 6's surviving heroes will stick beside him. Star and Stripe swoop in from North America to help Class 1-A and the pro squad take on All For One and his treacherous band of deviants. The series returned on May 4, and you can watch it weekly on Saturdays on Crunchyroll.

Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction

Adapted from a movie based on Asano Inio's manga, Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction is a sci-fi story set in Tokyo where a large spaceship carrying aliens suddenly appears. Three high school students at the center of the story seem unfazed until they mature and realize life is more complex than it seems. Watch it each Thursday at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET on Crunchyroll.

NieR:Automata Ver1.1a

Set in a dystopian future, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a picks up with the battle for Earth between the aliens' machine life forms and the androids deployed by humans. Cour 2 will arrive on July 5 on Crunchyroll, and the humans think they have the upper hand with the super android squad, YoRHa. How will it end?

The wait will finally be over when Tower of God's second season arrives on July 7. It's been roughly four years since the anime's first season premiered, and this installment will see characters continue with attempts to ascend the tower. According to Crunchyroll's official synopsis, a new team-up lies ahead: "Ja Wangnan can't seem to pass the 20th floor. Even after failing time and time again, he refuses to give up. On his journey, he meets a mysterious and powerful character named Viole. Wangnan invites Viole to join his team of Regulars."

Kaiju No. 8 finale

Japan is infested with kaiju, monsters who wreak havoc in the country. Kafka, a cleanup worker, gave up on joining his friend Mina as a member of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, but all that will change. He gains kaiju abilities and in his monster form, is labeled "Kaiju No. 8." When his secret gets out, Kafka's life is flipped, seemingly for the better. The season 1 finale airs Saturday, June 29, on Crunchyroll.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword

Based on the manga series by Fujino Ōmori, Wistoria: Wand and Sword follows Will Serfort as enrolls as a student in a magic academy without any skills. He is, however, adept at using his "awakened" sword, which helps him evade expulsion because he can fight monsters. The new anime premieres on Crunchyroll on July 7.

Terminator Zero

Netflix's new anime series Terminator Zero will introduce new characters connected to the larger Terminator universe with two AI systems vying for power. A soldier from 2022 is sent back to 1997 to prevent the war Skynet causes, but a newly created artificial intelligence framework could hold the key. Created by Japanese company Production IG, Terminator Zero will debut on Aug. 29.

One Piece is the anime that keeps on giving, and the long-running series isairing new episodes each week on Netflix. Season 21 will begin streaming on July 1.
