The Future of Humanity (1)

From the possibilities of terraforming Mars to the quest for immortality, "The Future of Humanity" offers a fascinating glimpse into the destiny that awaits us among the stars.

Here is 26 interesting snippets from the book 👇

  1. we find that more than 99.9 percent of them eventually became extinct.

  2. This means that extinction is the norm, that the odds are already stacked heavily against us.

  3. Nature will eventually turn on us, as it did to all those extinct life-forms.

  4. But if there is one lesson we can learn from our history, it is that humanity, when faced with life-threatening crises, has risen to the challenge and has reached for even higher goals.

  5. Life is too precious to be placed on a single planet, to be at the mercy of these planetary threats.

  6. we should become a “two planet species.” In other words, we need a backup plan.

  7. As the old Chinese proverb says, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.

  8. Chinese rare earth industry makes up 97 percent of the world trade. China has roughly 30 percent of the world’s reserves.)

  9. Killer asteroids are nature’s way of asking, “How’s that space program coming along?” —ANONYMOUS

  10. whether the mining of the asteroid belt could create another Gold Rush in outer space.

  11. Our brains are planning machines.

  12. We have not yet figured out why there is more matter than antimatter in the universe.

  13. If our mind can be digitized, then is the soul just information?

  14. in the future, telepathy and telekinesis will be the norm; we will interact with machines by sheer thought.

  15. In the future, we might live in the mental age, where our thoughts control the world around us.

  16. uploading memories might be the most efficient way to learn entirely new information about distant worlds.

  17. we ever meet aliens from space, we shouldn’t be surprised if they are part biological and part cybernetic.

  18. Paul Davies goes one step further: “My conclusion is a startling one. I think it very likely—in fact inevitable—that biological intelligence is only a transitory phenomenon, a fleeting phase in the evolution of intelligence in the universe. If we ever encounter extraterrestrial intelligence, I believe it is overwhelmingly likely to be post-biological in nature, a conclusion that has obvious and far-reaching ramifications for SETI [the search for extraterrestrial intelligence].”

  19. Our basic personality has not changed much since we first emerged as modern humans two hundred thousand years ago.

  20. we will only adopt enhancements if they raise our status in society.

  21. I think the caveman principle would prevent us from evolving into creatures that we find repulsive.

  22. Remember that our cavemen ancestors wanted to be useful and helpful to others. It is hardwired into our genes.

  23. the arc created by our index finger and thumb is roughly the size of a tree branch in Africa.

  24. One can then compile a list of letters and analyze how frequently each one is used, providing a distinctive “fingerprint” for that language or particular person.

  25. the quantum theory is so accurate that it is perhaps the most successful theory of all time.

  26. In the quantum theory, there are no singularities because there is a fuzziness that prevents knowing the precise location of the black hole.)

How I Kickstarted My Reading Habit with a Simple 10-Minute Morning Routine

I was struggling with my Reading Habit before COVID

↳ Less than 1 book or Zero Book Yearly

Then COVID hit

I decided to read 10 minutes every day, First thing in the morning.
↳Even before leaving the bed.
↳Kept my kindle (You can try a paper back also) near my bed.

After snoozing alarm I will pick the book and read for 10 min.

I did this for 2-3 months. Once I got hold of the habit, I started reading more .

I ended up reading 20+ books for last 3 Years.
